June 23, 2011
Hello friends, this week has flown by. I’m still recovering from the Asian Man 15 year anniversary. I can’t believe it came and went so quickly. I guess I should get ready for the 20 year anniversary now? Ahhh…. Here’s a super duper quick recap:
-JUNE 12th-Slapstick arrives for rehearsal. My motor starts and never stops until June 20th
-JUNE 15th-first official show @ Slim’s. My old band the CHINKEES kick things off and my goodness I forgot how old I was for 30 minutes and tried pretending it was 1996 all over again. MU330 and SLAPSTICK followed for more 1996 dancing and fun. Sore for the rest of the week. OUCH! Made it home at 2:30 AM, asleep by 4 AM
-JUNE 16th-awake at 6:30 AM, I’m running on adrenaline. The first day where we do dual clubs(THEE PARKSIDE and THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL). My stress level hits a new high. I can’t even enjoy the music as I’m running back and forth from club to club as I try my best to keep things organized. I make it through the night and end up sleeping in my van from 5 AM til 8 AM.
-JUNE 17th-load in is at noon for the BROADWAYS reunion. At this point I feel like a zombie, but the energy of the crowd brings me back and I’m ready for the night shows. My body is starting to crash hard, but make it back home at 3:30 AM to sleep in my own bed. 5 hrs later I’m up!!
-JUNE 18th-I feel human again after a shower and head off for our 2pm bbq at thee parkside. I cook 300 hot dogs and 200 boca burgers. Beans and pasta salad complete the meal and we manage to feed over 300 people. 4 hrs of non stop grilling was actually medicating for me. I smelt like smoke, but felt great. Night shows go off without a hitch.
-JUNE 19th-was able to sleep in my own bed again and got at least 6 hrs sleep, so I’m feeling like THOR!! The last night I played a short set and said my goodbyes to the many new friends I made over the course of the week. It was like last day of summer camp.
Thanks again to all the amazingly nice people who traveled from such far away places. What a treat to meet so many of you. We sold over 3,300 tickets over the course of 10 shows and not even one problem the entire time. No fights, no bullshit, just smiles and good times. YAY!! We win!! Hope you felt the same. I will try writing a more detailed account of the anniversary next week, but just wanted to give this quick thank you.
Also, we have posters from the event that are up for sale on the deals section at the bottom of the front page of the website. You get a 12 x 18 poster of both poster designs rolled in a poster tube. Both of these posters are limited to 1,000 and will never get pressed again. So get yours while you can. There is a typo on the page right now. It says CLASSICS OF LOVE 7” deal, but it’s the poster deal. Also, there’s no paypal link, but we will have one up later in the day. These poster deals with a shipping tube are only $3, so get yours while you can. I think these will be gone quickly.
ok, that’s it for now. Be well friends.
Peace, mike park
