IMPORTANT!! PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH ORDERS TO ASIAN MAN RECORDS. IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS WE'VE HAD HUNDREDS OF MISSING CASH ORDERS. PLEASE SEND A CHECK, MONEY ORDER, OR EVEN BETTER...ORDER ONLINE WITH OUR SECURE CREDIT CARD ORDERING SYSTEM OR CALL US DIRECT TO ORDER(408)395-0662. NOTE:If this is your first time coming to the Asian Man newsletter and are wondering what the heck this newsletter is??? Well, it's just my place to rant about anything, so for real news, please email miya@asianmanrecords.com and just request to be added to the mailing list and you will be sent news that actually pertains to the bands we work with. Greetings!! I am sitting in a hotel room in Tokyo Japan. It's now 5:50 AM. I awoke at 5 AM to 3 mosquito bites on my face. 1 on my right eyebrow tip, 1 on my lower right jaw and 1 on my left cheek. Also 1 on my right upper buttocks. SUCKS!! Mosquitos seem to love me and I'm not in love with them. I swell up like a balloon at first and the damn itch. Well, I'm officially jet lagged. Perhaps I can get a nap in before it gets too late in the day, as I only slept 5 hours last night....which added to the 7 hours I slept in the previous 2 nights makes a grand total of 12 hours in the last 72 hours. My friend Julie can pull that kind of sleep off in one day easy! It's 5:50 AM on Wednesday in Japan, and it's only 1:50 PM on Tuesday afternoon in California. Perhaps my body thinks it's daytime. Argghhh... Today is election day. I'm sure you voted, if not....What cha waiting for? Well, I'm quite excited to be here in Japan, perhaps that's adding to my sleep deprivation. I probably just can't wait to see as much and experience as much as humanly possible in my one week here. Next issue at hand-I'm still getting tons of feedback from y'all about whether or not I should move Asian Man to an office space. I've definitely decided to keep things in the garage. My big problem with the garage is an issue of space and with so many people advising me to just get a storage space for the extra stuff that can't fit, it really does make perfect sense to do that and keep things simple. In fact, I don't know why I didn't think of that myself. Thinking things over for the last month, I've really come to a conclusion that I am one of the luckiest persons in the world. I truly feel blessed with everything I have and can't imagine why I've been able to make a living doing what I do. Being in the music business is an oddity. First of all I feel like I have nothing in common with this dog eat dog, go for the throat industry. It's something that I need to realize that happiness comes first. I'm so happy with what I have and why would I mess with that. I have a great family of bands, great employees in Miya and Tony and my mom loves the label in her garage. And I know my neighbors dig it too. They even sport the asian man sticker on their cars. It just makes sense for me to stay the way I am. I seriously received at least a thousand responses. It's neat to know that people care about my decisions as I feel it's imperative that I share things with you. This company is not a one way street. I need you to move and it would be unfair for me not to share things with you. Anyways, I better get going, but wanted to let you know about a couple important dates(at least to me) before I go. First one is November 11th. This day is great for a few reasons: Reason #1-It's my birthday. Please send me elaborate gifts, cash, etc..(HA!) and reason #2-It's my record release! The other day Tony @ asian man pulled out an old catalog from 1999 and it said coming soon-Mike Park solo record. Ooooops.... Well, better late than never. It's done and I'm excited. I'm playing a record release show in Los Angeles on NOV. 11th at the Knitting Factory. It would be great to celebrate this day with friends and familiar faces. Hope to see you out there. Another important date is Nov. 22nd. I'm playing a benefit show at 924 GILMAN St. in Berkeley, California. We are donating 50% of the proceeds to benefit famine relief in North Korea. We're also holding a food drive at the show that will be donated to a local shelter. Please bring as many non-perishable food items to the show. Clean out the kitchen and bring those cans of soup that have been sitting in the pantry for the last 5 years. You'll be happy to have cleaned up a bit and you'll be helping someone out. Please, please, please spread the word about the benefit show. If you have friends that live in Northern California, just drop them a little note to say hi and let them know the info.. Even if you can't make the show, you can donate money to the cause by writing a check out to PLEA FOR PEACE, PO BOX 35585, MONTE SERENO, CA. 95030-5585 and put a note in there that says N. KOREAN FAMINE RELIEF. Well, thanks if you read this far. I appreciate it very much. Have a beautiful day everyone. OH OH OH... and go to http://mikeparkmusic.com My website is done if you haven't noticed already. Peace always, Mike Park |
