NOTE:If this is your first time coming to the Asian Man newsletter and are wondering what the heck this newsletter is??? Well, it's just my place to rant about anything, so for real news, please email
miya@asianmanrecords.com and just request to be added to the mailing list and you will be sent news that actually pertains to the bands we work with.
This past Monday we had an event at the Oakland A's game. It was our second year doing something at an A's game. Firstly, because the A's are amazing and secondly because you can buy tickets for so cheap. With a triple AAA card, you can get 3rd deck tickets for only $4. And then you just sneak down to better seats.
Anyways, for years I've been coming to games and I've tailgated my heart out many a times. But I've always envisioned this one spot of the parking lot in the far, far corner away from everyone and pressed up against the freeway. If we had bands play in this spot, would we get away with it?
It's so far from everyone that the noise wouldn't bother anyone? Would it?Worth a try, so this year I rented a generator, set up a PA and had 2 bands play. A security guard rode his bike up and he didn't seem to care. He even watched for a bit.
He came back again a bit later and I ended up talking to him about music. I asked if this was ok to be doing? He said it would only be a problem if there were complaints. Woohoo!! This is something I'll definitely do every year.
I spent over $250 on food and drinks. It was still barely enough to go around, but thankfully it lasted and everyone was fed. I was a bit short on the beverages, but that's ok. Next time I'll know better.
Anyways, thanks to all who came out. Hope you had fun. I will be going on a short tour starting on August 15th. Please check out my tour dates at http://
mikeparkmusic.com and come out and say hello if I'm playing in your neck of the woods.
Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. The weather is more than beautiful and the desire to do no work is bigger and stronger than ever. Hmmm... What's my deal. ARggghhh.. Be good y'all and smile huge.
Peace, mike park
