Anything we have at Asian Man is up for trade. 8:52 AM Happy New Year! I realize it's already the 9th of January, but better late than never eh? Skylar(my co-host at asian man) told me I'd never keep up a weekly newsletter and ya know what....? He's right. Oh well. What can you do? The new Queers record "MUNKI BRAIN" has arrived at Asian Man. It will be in stores Feb. 6th, but we will begin shipping these next week for pre-order. Go to asianmanrecords.com to get your copy. Also, the band is on tour and have the record at their shows. To be completely honest I had been dissapointed with the bands last few records, but this new album is amazing. Don't believe me? Well, check out a track here myspace.com/asian_man_records Tell me what you think. Here's a new band we're working with called ANDREW JACKSON JIHAD. http://andrewjacksonjihad.com or myspace.com/andrewjacksonjihad From the valley of the sun, this the first band from the Phoenix to grace the pages of Asian Man Records. And it's about time we got with it. They are influenced by: Manowar, Sebadoh, Against Me!, Winger, The Dead Milkmen, Neutral Milk Hotel, Kurt Vonnegut novels. Pretty much the usual for this time in music: Modest Mouse, Radiohead, Pixies, duh... Satyricon's pretty good... um... Dismemberment Plan, The Gunshy, Kind of Like Spitting, Mr. John Vanderslice, Leslie Barton, Kimber Lanning, Old Dirty Bastard. The Mountaingoats, We're all kind of influenced by the tobacco industry, I guess. Our enemies and friends, Jalipaz, who is a mix of both. This Bike is a Pipebomb. Fugazi, Katharine of Modified and Livinghead Audio fame. Loren LaPlante and Rodan, the best band that never happened. Life in Pictures, the NUGE, Blankets, Asleep In the Sea, Swordfish, Hack Bandit, Woody Guthrie, Raffi (seriously, he's a wonderful songwriter who has ideals we should all follow), Punk rock is everywhere. Check them out and tell me what you think. Myspace...Hmmmm... What do you all think? It's kind of embarrassing to say "Hey, check out my myspace page". And I even feel weird when I post it in my newsletter, but I have to admit I'm friggin addicted to this site. And I'm sure some of you are too. Hmmm.... I started to wonder why it got so big? Do you remember that site friendster? Damn, they dropped the ball. They started all this before myspace and now they barely have any presence. Man, I bet they're wondering what happened. Anyways, one of our artists named Mike Hale was somehow a featured artist for the first week of January. We have no idea why this happened, but going into January he had 9,000 plays and now he has 125,000 plays. He just started his account in November. Damn...... The power of the internet disgusts me. And then I realized I have been on that site for over two years and I only have 112,000 plays. DOH!!! Double damn on the internet. But it was a funny sight to see. This ghetto picture of Mike Hale surrounded by bands with pro photographs and big record companies paying big dollars to put them on this page and we got it for free. But why? We have no idea. Oh well. Finally, we need to give a shout out to our friends at KBHC 1-800-SUICIDE. They've been working hard towards progressive methods of mental health issues. Targeting our youth and now the government is not providing funds that were promised to them. I urge you to view this PSA from the KBHC and spread the word about what is happening here. Let's use the internet for a breath of fresh air in helping our brethren http://youtube.com/watch?v=kgJh7p79ons Holy moly, it's already 2007.
